Cutter Automotive Galleries is proud to be located in the beautiful state of Hawai’i, and we absolutely love mainland visitors, but we’ve noticed some things that mainland visitors say that are pretty annoying to those of us who live here. We’ve come up with some helpful know-how for our non-local friends.

Hawai’i is in fact a state, so be careful when you say, “back in the States.” Pretty much everyone speaks English, though some may use different slang words and have accents.

Try Spam! It’s everywhere, it’s good, we love it. Speaking of food, pineapple is one food that isn’t on everything here, and putting pineapple on something doesn’t necessarily mean it’s Hawaiian food.

We don’t all know each other. This gets confusing to mainlanders, because we call each other aunty, uncle, and cousin, but it’s not that small of a state.

Not everyone surfs. Yes, we have some of the best surfing in the world, but it shouldn’t be assumed that someone surfs just because they are from Hawai’i.

It’s not always perfect, sunny, and happy all of the time. We have terrible weather sometimes, we aren’t sipping drinks on the beach every day (we would if we could), and we don’t see Hawai’i as just a vacation spot. It’s home, and we are glad to see people enjoy it, but we are regular people and regular Americans. We just happen to live in an amazing place called Hawai’i.
